Activities And Gatherings

A variety of stimulating Activity Groups are organized by members and Are for members-only participation.

Gatherings

Coffee Meeting

We meet on the first Wednesday morning of the month to hear an educational presentation and Activity Group announcements. This meeting is open to the public.

Monthly Luncheon

Members may reserve a seat for a scrumptious meal at local restaurants on third Thursdays from September to May to meet up with old friends or make new ones.

New Member Get Together

The club hosts an occasional gathering of new members to learn about the club and meet others. By invitation only.

Activities

Antiques Group

Members of the Antiques Group share their love and knowledge of antiques, vintage, and just plain fond memories of things near and dear. Each monthly meetings focuses on a particular theme of collectables. There are a few field trips annually to museums, historic homes, etc.

Board of Directors

This is the ULTIMATE activity group, technically the Executive and Governing Boards who are elected for a one-year term and meet monthly, June to May, to conduct the business and general management of the Club.

Beach Walkers

Join the morning wake-up-walk along the Carlsbad Village beachfront on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30 AM. After the Friday walk, the walkers have breakfast. Walkers of all fitness levels are welcome.

Book Clubs

Book Clubs are formed on an as-needed basis. Readers can join an existing group or start a new group when there is enough interest. The clubs function independently to choose books and set times and dates for their meeting. On a rotating basis, one club plans the Annual Author's Luncheon which features an author as the keynote speaker and occasionally a book drive to support a local charity.

Bridge For players who know how to play bridge.

Bunco

Bunco players enjoy this fun, interactive dice game monthly that offers an opportunity to get acquainted. Half of the $5 player’s fee supports City of Carlsbad Opportunity Grants for children. No prior experience necessary.

Canasta

The group meets twice a month to play the wonderful game of Canasta.  They play according to Hoyle’s Book of Rules and have an awesome time.

Coffee and Friends

The Coffee and Friends casual monthly gathering provides a friendly way for members to come together, get to know each other, and enjoy an afternoon break. Held at a local coffee shop, there is no agenda or RSVP required. Just show up for some good chat.

Culinary Arts

The Culinary Arts Group participants learn new cooking and baking techniques, uses of helpful utensils, new recipes, and strive to expand their knowledge and skills. At each meeting, held at a member’s home, the participants share at least one cooking/baking hint at the themed-lunch. They do not need to be expert cooks, but have a willingness to share.

Evening Get-Together

Monthly, a volunteer host opens their home for a pleasurable evening get-together for singles and couples. The host provides the setting, dishes and utensils. Guests bring an appetizer or dessert, and it’s BYOB.

Facebook Page

Over 80 members connect on our private Facebook page to post photos and to learn what is going on in and around Carlsbad. They ask questions about the area and the Club. Members only access.

Hand and Foot

Everyone is welcome, new and experienced players, to join the group that plays this fun game of Hand & Foot based on a variant of Canasta. They meet twice monthly in the afternoon.

Happy Hour

These festive people meet up in the late afternoon at an arranged location to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. The no-host bar menus include alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices as well as light bites. Come meet a group of people who are friendly, curious, and love to share stories that, more often than not, demonstrate how we are all connected. The Happy Hour group meets most months. Join them for some happy hour fun!

 Let's Go Monthly outings.

Needlework Group

The Needlework group is a gathering of crafty women (but men are welcome) who do a variety of handwork for themselves or to donate. They create by sewing needles, crochet, and embroidery. They also just talk and enjoy each other’s company monthly in the afternoon.

Pinochle

Players gather monthly for this trick-taking classic card game played with a single deck. Our aim is to have fun, laugh and play in a noncompetitive atmosphere. New or experienced players to Pinochle are welcome.

Theatre Group

Theater Group members attend live theatrical performances held throughout San Diego County. Performances are chosen at the semi-annual meeting and planned by members. Often, carpooling and discounts for group ticket purchases are available.

 Trivia Group

These fun folks play team trivia with plenty of friendly competition and laughter. Everyone learns something new and interesting each month.

Activity Groups are open to all members who also plan and organize the activities.  We suggest new members try a few groups and see which one holds their interest.  The contact information of Activity Chairs is listed in the newsletter and in the Members Only section for the website.

If you don’t see an Activity Group that interests you, or the one you choose has a wait list, you may talk to the Board to get help to start a new group.
